The Coterie Tournament of Champions

Welcome to the home of Icon Golf. What was intended to be a three-hole golf course on a section of a family farm has grown into one of the most talked-about and celebrated private golf courses in the United States….Canyata. Just outside the quintessential American farm town of Marshall, Ill., Canyata (pronounced can-YAY-tuh) is a 7,200-yard stunner molded from the rugged and rolling farmland of east central Illinois by golf course architect Michael Benkusky. Ultimately, two million cubic yards of cornfield were moved to form Canyata’s massive fairways and greens, which are edged by waterscaped ponds, artificial creeks and a dazzling array of bunkers. With all play restricted to Icon members and their invited guests, Canyata’s manicuring is always nearly flawless.

• 36 holes of tournament play
• Two-person teams (Icon Golf member & guest)
• GHIN handicaps or unofficial handicaps approved by Jeff Goodsell and the golf staff of Canyata will be used for scoring purposes
• FORMAT
  • Scoring during the two rounds of tournament play will be done using a team Stableford (quota system). There will be a 50% quota adjustment (up or down) for each contestant after the first day of the competition. The combined +/- of the team’s total points in relation to the overall team quota will determine the standings after 36 holes of play. Points will be allotted on each hole using the following scoring system (gross scores):

    • Albatross: 8 points

    • Eagle: 6 points

    • Birdie: 4 points

    • Par: 2 points

    • Bogey: 1 point

    • Double Bogey or worse: 0 points

  • After the 36 holes of tournament play, there will be a “true” alternate-shot shootout to determine our overall champion. The shootout will be stroke play, scored using net strokes. The four teams that qualify for the Shootout will all play hole 7, after which we will eliminate the team with the worst score. Any ties will be broken via chip-off, abiding by a strict alternate shot format. This process will be repeated on hole 8, leaving two teams playing hole 9 for the tile of Coterie Champions. A tie on hole 9 will result in a replay of hole 9 until we have an outright winner.

• CLUB LIMIT – 14 club rule is in effect
• MUSIC – Music-playing devices are allowed at Canyata
• TEES – All participants will play from the II tees
• TIES – The Committee will break all ties with the USGA recommended method of matching scorecards from the most recent round (the team or teams with the best performance compared to that round’s quota). If there are still teams tied, we will settle the tie via a chip-off.
• RAIN – In the event of rain, the Committee may declare play null and void and cancel all scores for the round in question. A minimum of 18 holes will constitute a Tournament
• HANDICAPS – The Committee reserves the right to set and adjust the handicaps of all Tournament participants for the purposes of Tournament Awards. All decisions of the Committee shall be final for the purposes of the Tournament
